End Of Season Stat Pack

To be perfectly honest trying to juggle my scoring commitments, together with keeping the records up to date not only for us but also Lancashire Women, doing my post match reports for the various Lancs teams and having a bit of time for myself has meant little or no time for the blog and/or the Lostock Stats twitter account. So, now that we have finished the season and I have a little time on my hands let's take a look at the season through a statto's eyes.

The 1st XI managed to retain their place in the top division and during the course of the season managed to pass the milestone of 2000 competitive matches since our formation in 1938 with the total now standing at 2015 matches played which have seen us win 729 nad lose 744. They also managed to equal the longest losing streak in club history with 12 losses on the trot but reviving the season somewhat after that. The run chase at Padiham of 258 was the highest in our history, eclipsing the previous best of 235 by 23 runs and was just the 6th instance of us chasing down 200 or more to win a match.

1st XI Individual Milestones

Sam Barlow

Scored his maiden 1st XI century (the 50th for the 1stXI)  with his 127 v Padiham being the second highest innings by a Lostock wicketkeeper.

Aggregate of 590 runs was the 11th highest by a Lostock amateur, and saw him become the 9th amateur to score 500 or more in a season in 2 or more years.

33 victims in the season behind the stumps was the 10th highest total in a season, the 21st total of 30 or more and became the 7th keeper to pass 30 in a season on 2 or more occasions.

Became the 3rd player to pass 1000 runs in NWCL for the 1st XI

Matt Lamb

Passed 500 runs in the season (548) - the 19th amateur to do so and the 33rd in all.

Scored his first century for the 1st XI - the 49th for the 1stXI.

James Evans

Fell just 2 runs short of the magical 500 run barrier.

Just the 9th amateur to have scored 300 runs & taken 30 wickets in a season (498 & 30). The 25th recorded instance of this.

Became just the 5th player to pass 500 runs in T20 cricket for the club

2nd player to pass 1000 runs in NWCL cricket for the club, and also now one of 5 players to take 50 wickets in NWCL competitions.

Passed 2500 1stXI runs - the 18th recorded to do so.

Reece Gray

8th player to pass 500 runs in NWCL matches and also one of the 5 players to take 50 wickets in the NWCL.

Adam Syddall

Played his 200th 1st XI match (the 22nd recorded to reach 200)

Passed 50 wickets in the NWCL

George Jackson

Passed 1000 1stXI runs (the 41st recorded to do so)

Passed 100 1stXI appearances (the 54th recorded to do so)

Harry Jackson

Passed 50 1stXI wickets (the 53rd recorded to do so)

Akbar Ur Rehman

Akbar passed 3000 1stXI runs - the 14th recorded to do so and the 3rd highest aggregate ever recorded by a professional for the club.

He also passed 100 wickets for the 1stXI (21st to pass) and also 50 catches (17th)

2nd XI Individual Milestones

Lucky Issa - Passed 4500 runs for the 2nd XI - just the 4th recorded to do so.

Amit Dashore - Passed 1000 2ndXI runs (the 36th recorded instance)

Darren Parr - Has now moved up to 3rd place for most wickets taken for the 2ndXI with 442

Kiishan Ram, Arron Patel and Nick Ford - All passed 50 2ndXI wickets to take the total up to 40 recorded to do so.

 3rd XI Individual Milestones

Harry Jackson - 1st player to score over 1000 runs for the 3rd XI

Kiishan Ram - 1st player to take 50 wickets for 3rd XI

Ajay Guhathakurta - now leading wicketkeepre for 3rd XI

Catch Up Time!

To be perfectly honest trying to juggle my scoring commitments, together with keeping the records up to date not only for us but also Lancashire Women, doing my post match reports for the various Lancs and having a bit of time for myself has meant little or no time for the blog and/or the Lostock Stats twitter account. So, having a relatively quiet week ahead here is a look at one or two of the main statistical highlights so far this season.

Matt Lamb's first century for the club in the recent game against Earby was the 49th recorded for the 1stXI in competitive cricket and the 17th by an amateur batsman. It was also the 2nd recorded for us in the Hamer Cup - in which we've had a pretty dismal record over the years. Incidentally, Matt's century was the 79th recorded for the club in all cricket whilst the three that we have conceded so far this season have almost brought parity as those hit against us now total 78!

Skipper James Evans has hit nineties on consecutive weekends over the last couple of weeks which in itself is realtively rare and prompted me to have a look at how many instances of 90 or more we've had in the 1stXI. James' brace take the total up to 33 that we have recorded for the the 1stXI to date, with two players having the dubious honour of having made 99* - John Norburn in 1991 and last year's pro Muhammed Suleman. It may not come as a surprise that the most 90's recorded are 4 by current pro Akbar Ur-Rehman who also leads the 100 lists, and Peter Flanagan. Others to record more than 1 90+ innings are Rehman Shah (3); Wayne Harper (2), Luckman Vahalawala (2), Ather Abid (2) and Muhammed Suleman (2).

The lads above combined to hit an opening partnership of 203 in the cup game v Earby which is a new record opening stand in cup cricket for the club and, just the 3rd double century stand ever recorded for the 1stXI. The caveat to partnership records that we currently have to hand is that many of our old scorebooks simply didn't record the fall of wickets so create one of the sketchier areas of our archive. The other two that we have records of are the 1st wicket record of 213* between Wayne Harper and Matthew Syddall v Little Hulton in 1999, and the 2nd wicket record of 273 shared by Ather Abid and Peter Flanagan against Bolton in 2009 at Daisy Hill.

Mention of current pro Akbar Ur-Rehman reminds me that he is on the cusp of more milestones here at Lostock. He's quietly moved up to 16th on the all time 1stXI runscoring chart with his pre-weekend total standing at 2831 leaving him within touching distance of becoming the 15th recorded to make 3000 for the 1stXI. His 2889 runs in total for the club have him now 36th in all games for Lostock with the opportunity to become the 34th to make 3000. He also now has 94 wickets for the 1stXI so potentially on the verge of being the 32nd to record 100 for the 1stXI. In all games for the club he sits on 99 so his next wicket will see him become the 61st to reach 100 wickets for the club. Assuming he reaches both landmarks he will become just the 5th player to score 3000 runs and take 100 wickets for the 1stXI - joining Les Barlow, David Flanagan, Graeme Beswick and Conner Hicklin. James Evans could yet join this club soon too.

Saturday's 1stXI game will be the 2000th competitive game for the team since our formation in 1938. Prior to Friday's T20 at Kearsley the record stands at Played 1998, Won 721, Lost 736, Tied 10, Draw/Aband/Canc 531.

The current losing run of 10 games by the 1stXI is threatening to match or surpass the record of 12 consecutive defeats between the end of the 1938 season and early 1939 season.

Finally, a quirkier one to finish on. James Cregan recently played his first game for the club for 11 years a couple of weeks ago - not in itself a record, Stephen Croston for example returned to play in 2023 having last played in 2001 a gap of 22 years. But should Saturday's game v Blackrod go ahead it will be his first home game on a "Lostock" home ground (ie excluding the games at Haydock etc when we were waiting our new home) since 2007. No doubt he'll be hoping for a similar score to that last one at Lostock Lane where he made the final ever 1stXI half century in that game.

Stat Pack 1stXI v Eagley

The 1stXI will be looking to bounce back fromlast weekend's thrilling but ultimately disappointing loss against Tonge where we were beaten by a margin of 1 wicket.

Saturday will see the 20th meeting between the clubs since we first met back in 2016 when we joined the Bolton League in all competitions.

The 10 league games so far have been evenly spread with 5 wins to Lostock, 4 to Eagley and 1 game abandoned. In the cup we have one win each, whilst in T20 cricket it stands at 5 wins to us and just the one to Eagley with 1 abandoned. Overall then P19 W11 L6 A2

2ndXI at Barnoldswick

Our 2nd XI start their season with a trip to Barnoldswick which will be only the second meeting at this level between the clubs at this level. Barnoldswick won a close game last year by a margin of just 8 runs so the lads will be looking to turn that result around this year.

The Scorecard from last year looks like this:-
